Hey, I’m Aimee and I’m 17.  Maria and I have been friends since last year when we were lab partners. A few months ago, I came out to Maria and told her I was a lesbian. I’ve always thought I might like girls, but I wasn’t sure until I met Julie, this cool girl in my art class. Talking to Julie is so awesome because we have so much in common; the more I talk to Julie the more I realize that there are other people just like me.

Maria, Julie and I all joined our school’s Gay-Straight Alliance together and have met lots of awesome people.  Seeing how supportive Maria was when I came out to her made me feel more comfortable about coming out to other people.

I’m even thinking about whether to come out to my family now.  I’m definitely a little scared about that but I’m hoping that someday it will just feel right to tell them. In the meantime, Maria’s been helping to connect me with other people who can support me no matter what decision I make.
