I don't want to get an STI

There are a bunch of things you can do to protect yourself from STIs, or to reduce your risk. You could:

  1. Use a latex or polyurethane (thin plastic) condom when you have sex
  2. For oral sex, use a dental dam, plastic wrap, or condom to protect yourself
  3. Have sex with fewer people
  4. Talk with the people you’re having sex with about getting tested
  5. If you are unsure about whether you or your partner may have an STI, you can wait to have sex until you can get tested.
  6. Choose lower risk activities (such as fingering and/or hand jobs)
  7. Choose not to have sex
